Greetings to all,
Well, I guess I need to be more creative in soliciting comments on this blog. It’s been pretty quiet around the Bird Blind.
This morning we have high winds here in central MA; I’ve heard no birds yet this morning; 6:30 A.M. Recently I’ve been hearing a very weak-sounding Poor Sam Peabody call. Is it a White-throated Sparrow, or something imitating one? Not sure.
I’m also hearing lots of Carolina wrens, White-breasted nuthatches, Chickadees, Downy woodpeckers, and a red-bellied woodpecker.
Right now I’m sitting at my computer in my basement office. I have a boundary microphone on the back and also one on the front of my house outside, which are connected by cable to a mixer that goes to my computer sound car. I get stereo sound, however it’s really two distinct sound sources, since one is all the way at the back of the house and the other at the front.
Here’s a link to a detailed description of my equipment:

Ah, I now hear a cardinal chipping. I’m not sure how anything can fly well in this strong wind. It is really blowing out there.
Yesterday my wife and I visited an apartment building in Newton MA near Boston. I was surprised at the variety of birds I was hearing. Nothing too exotic, but lots of birds actively feeding and calling.
Ah, now I hear a Bluejay calling.
Time for another cup of coffee.

hello jerry,
i stumbled upon your blogsite this morning searching for some info on getting a microphone & speaker set to install here at home so my husband and i could enjoy the sounds of our feathered friends this winter! i checked out your equipment description and was wondering if you could give any suggestions about what i might be able to get that is a bit more simple than what you have. really all i’d like to get is a microphone to install on the house (all the feeders are within 15 feet) and then a speaker to mount just inside from there. a nature center i once frequented had a wonderful system like this set up for their bird blind, but im wondering how complicated & expensive that was?
a little about me – we live in SE WI (i am originally a Hoosier; my husband grew up here in WI. however, together we just moved here this spring.). right now we are watching pretty much the same crew as you are! chickadees, nuthatches, juncos, blue jays, cardinals, finches (of all sorts), downy woodpeckers–no wrens yet here, however i did see some tufties last week! i used to be into birding much more several years ago, and am now getting back into it, as it is so relaxing and also entertaining to watch the social patterns of the different flocks, plus i have a lot more free time
anyway, id love if you could give me any suggestions on the microphone & speaker. The Bird Blind is a really neat idea and I will check back often!
have a great weekend
